Brothers Age & Flo of Preachas In Tha Hood hound themselves in two rival gangs while living under the same roof during the Summer of Violence in their hometown of Denver, Colorado in 1993. The name stemmed from the large number of gang-related, youths’ deaths. Despite tension, threats in the Preachas In Tha Hood household brought no violence.

Age started his own gang in 1992 and began selling guns and drugs. Flo followed suite, finding his gang brothers in a private Christian school (of all places) where his parents sent him to “keep him out of trouble”. Despite being raised in a Christian home, both turned to illegal activity. Age became a professional thief and was facing a sentence of 40 to life as a repeat offender.

“I was under arrest, and I cried to God, if I go to jail I will live for you,” said Age, “ If I don’t I will still serve You.”

As the judge stood for sentencing, he stared coldly into Age’s eyes saying, “I don’t ever want to see you here again.” Age served a two week sentence. One week of his sentence was work release. His father put up the house to pay for Age’s five hundred thousand dollar bail charge.

Meanwhile, Flo met Carlos Luna from God’s New Creation, a Christian Hip-Hop trio. Flo began searching for God. On their reunion the brothers formed the rap group Preachas In Tha Hood. Their mother scrapped up enough money to buy a drum machine, and they started rapping in church.

Now, Age & Flo take their talents to prisons where they perform, give testimonies, and share their lives with inmates through Prison Fellowship. Once conflicting brothers, the two pledge to introduce listeners to the only one who can change hearts–Jesus.
