One man’s illiteracy changed Antonious Colt’s life. Sitting in jail Antonious transcibed letters by inmate, Andrew Allen to his wife.

“Things that he had me write were things about God that came from his heart,” said Antonious, “like how he loved God...writing scriptures. He planted a seed in me. When I got out of jail my whole attitude changed.”

Everywhere Antonious went he met a new set of problems. Born to a sixteen-year-old, Antonious’s rebellion caused him to run away from home to Georgia and into the arms of one of his nine aunts, connected to gangs. He learned how to cut, bag and sell cocaine from her boyfriend at seventeen years old. Antonious learned early about the “rich man’s high”, a cocaine dealer’s use of his own product (social use). Antonious wanted to further his power as a street soldier in gangs, so he got arrested for unlawful use of weapons and aggravated assault. Antonious used jail to gain connections into the uppercrust of the gangster society. His connections in prison finally led to a more stable existance after he met Allen in 1995. He decided to change his life. Antonious wanted to get his GED after remembering how much he admired Allen’s love for God and the changes God had made in him.

“I thought there was no way I could do this because I went to school only until ninth grade,” said Antonious. “I never payed attention and skipped school a lot.”

Antonious, overwhelmed by the nine and a half hour test, prayed that he could stay in the room long enough to finish. Antonious successfully attained his GED and went on to rap with a group in Rockford called “815 Click”. He felt this step led him in a more positive direction. While with 815, Antonious met his wife, who also wanted more from life than the Click. She was attending church regularly which sparked some curiousity in Antonious. Nov. 7, 1996, Antonious snuck away to a local church to feed his curiousity. Antonious found it difficult to understand the praise and worship of God that went on around him. He silently slipped to the door and was approached by the pastor. The pastor hugged him and he could not let go. The pastor told him that God had saved Antonious from a bullet and that He wanted Antonious to accept Jesus as his savior. Antonius felt God’s presence so strongly he started crying and admitted he needed Jesus.

Antonious began to write Christian Rap after praying and studying the Bible with his wife. Now, Antonious seeks to bring his music to the mainstream to impact people for Christ.
